700 AD – The night of black clouds

Tiamat acted in the dead of night, just as Bahamut had. All the chromatic dragons, numbering in the 10s of thousands, flew out from the howling peaks, Tiamat included. The plan was simple: Fly to every town where a dragon had helped, and wipe it off the face of the earth.

Before the dragons could spread out to complete their plan, however, Tiamat ordered they all start with Fibrosia, the place where Bahamut and her family currently slept. At once, the destructive force of 10s of thousands of dragons was all focused on Fibrosia. It is said that Tiamat contributed half of the total energy. This was not just enough to destroy the country, or the land beneath it. Not only was every chunk of earth in Fibrosia either eviscerated or flung to the sky, the very force of gravity was shattered under their might. This even caused Fibrosia to become what we now know as Skyrana.

The dragons then flew outwards, flying to every village where a dragon lied, and wipe in out. Though some places got lucky and their dragon happened to be awake and ready to protect them, most weren’t so lucky. In total, 4 billion lives were lost that day, over half of the entire population of the material realm. The smoke that came from all the destroyed buildings was enough to coat the sky in a blanket of night, that lasted up to 2 months in some areas (such as Fibrosia)

However, Tiamat’s true targets ironically all “escaped” in one way or another. Bahamut was able to sense Tiamat’s approach, though she wouldn’t have time to grab her husband and son who were on the other side of the country. instead, she sent them a message to let them know the situation. Bahamut was able to grab Mira and fly out of Fibrosia in time to survive, but she was still caught in the blast radius. She sheilded Mira with her body, but lost both her wings and took substantial damage. Bahamut crash landed near a mountain in the top half of slagforgt, where she crawled inside and sealed the entrance. Bahamut then saw into the future, unsure of what she should do with Mira. She didn’t enjoy seeing into the future, knowing that it was a slippery slope once you start doing it, but this was for the safety of her daughter. She looked into millions, billions of timelines, and reached a few conclusions.

  1. The world would not be safe for her daughter for a long time. Because of this, she instructed her daughter to hide her identity, using her magic to shield her mind to ensure that her identity would be safe
  2. As much as it pained her, the only timelines that had a chance of beating Tiamat were those in which her daughter fought him. So, she sent Mira 790 years into the future (Mira is 20 at start of campaign), telling her to protect her identity, and follow whatever path she believes in.
  3. She learnt the identities of the 4 other heroes who must be assembled to stand any chance of defeating Tiamat – Or Kaido as he would come to be known – One of which was her other child. And so she sent messages into the future alongside her child, with the goal of uniting the adventurers and starting them on the path to defeating Kaido
  4. She couldn’t die yet. As much as her body and heart ached, she knew that she had to spend what little strength she had left helping the adventurers, should they need it. So, she waited. For the next 800+ years, Bahamut lay dormant inside the mountain, until the adventurers would need her help.

Solanum wasn’t so lucky. Solanum knew he had no way of escaping – and certainly not stopping – the incoming attack. All he could do was try desperately to save Damian. So, he grabbed Damian and took him to the Nomai’s current best attempt at a time machine. It wasn’t stable, it hadn’t been tested, and there was a high chance it would simply kill Damian. But when compared to the alternative, the time machine looked as safe as a bouncy castle.

After hugging his son one last time, He instructed the machine to send him 10 years into the future, in the closest safe location. Solanum the wise then perished along with his nation.

Bahamut used her magic to intercept the time machine. Altering magic after it’s already been cast is the most difficult thing a magic user can do. And in her weakened state, Bahamut could not do it perfectly. She was able to redirect the time machine to 790 years in the future, but she made a mistake. instead of sending damian to the nearest safe location and sending his body there, the machine looked for the closest safe BODY, and sent Damian’s SOUL there. Thankfully, Damian survived this (Nomai do have particularly strong souls), but there was some damage to his soul. And the effect of this damage was loss of memory. Damian’s soul had lost all his life experience in the journey, and simply tried to fill in the blanks based on his surroundings. Damian had been sent to the body of a goliath barbarian, in a village that had just been pillaged by raiders.

Bahamut was worried that giving Damian all his memories back would shatter his soul, so she simply gave him the same message she did to the other adventurers, only this time with more pain in her voice.
